The complete specs sheet of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is yet to be revealed, but the company has given a glimpse of the new chipset. Qualcomm has announced many details at the digital summit 2020 about the latest chipset and the features it has stored for smartphones in 2021. The chip manufacturer, however, has to offer the best and latest mobile processor. It is certain that the upcoming processor will be better and faster than Snapdragon 865, its previous generation. While the chipset’s performance is as per expectation, it is the use of artificial intelligence that has brought the main difference.

The features of Snapdragon 865 includes the performance cores of four Cortex-A77 and the efficiency cores of four Cortex-A55. It has been manufactured by TSMC, which is based on the manufacturing process of 7 nm. The digital signal processing with a Hexagon 698 and an Adreno 650 powers has been used to handle the graphics. These features have provided a 25 percent increase in performance and efficiency compared to Snapdragon 855. So, it is well understood that the less consumption of battery and faster performance has placed the Snapdragon chip to remain at the top of the best mobile processor’s list throughout the year 2020 when it comes to Android devices.

By introducing the Snapdragon 888, Qualcomm has upgraded its capability of 5G to the X60 modem. The company has claimed to offer the best possible 5G network speeds across the world with the introduction of its latest chipset. Moreover, Qualcomm has also claimed to be the first to allow the aggregation of FDD, Sub-6, and TDD networks. Regarding Snapdragon 865, however, the chipset came with 5G support. It still did not include these various bands in such a combined form.

Apart from these, image processing power was 2-gigapixels per second in the Snapdragon 865, enabling it to see motion at the frame rate of 960 per second, 4K videos with high dynamic range, and high resolution 8K videos. Also, the chip supported 200-megapixels still images. These highly dynamic capabilities will expand with the newly announced Snapdragon 888 in the year 2021. The new chipset can process images at per second 2.7-gigapixels, which can be considered a vast improvement.

Gameplay & Smarter Snapdragon

Snapdragon 888 is much faster than its previous chipset, capable of handling high-resolution images more efficiently and better than expected. But the more surprising thing about this newly introduced system-on-a-chip is it’s 26 TOPS AI performance. Qualcomm has stated it as its massive ever leap forward taken in artificial intelligence. Compared to the AI performance of Snapdragon 865, its maximum performance was about 15 tera operations per second. The increase of 73 percent AI speed will enable the device to bring a new generation of sound and image recognition along with enhanced game processing, augmented reality, and much more. It can be seen as the burning challenge to Apple mobile SoC providing only 11 tera operations per second.

If we consider gaming performance, then Snapdragon 865 has been among the best for processing online games in mobiles. But, Snapdragon is far ahead, promising an improvement of 35 percent in the gaming department also. Online gaming requires a collaborative blend of almost every component in the phones and computers to provide the best performance. So, online gaming often becomes an enormous challenge for these devices. The use of 5G technology will allow lower latency and faster mobile networking.

Besides, the improved GPU and CPU will provide enhanced graphics and higher frame rates. Apart from these, artificial intelligence can be used to enhance the graphics and make the NPC’s improved. All these components will come with the Snapdragon 888 of Qualcomm with much improved versions and capabilities than in the previous SoC.
